Joseph Beyanga, the Secretary General for National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), in a circular dated July 28, 2023, informed members of the lifting of a temporary ban on the coverage of government activities and any government official event until the meeting with President Museveni scheduled for August 10, 2023 is held.

“In line with the aforementioned and in good faith, we have decided to temporarily lift the ban so as to create a reconciliatory atmosphere when engaging the government and during the meetings. Upon careful consideration, we have decided, and hereby inform you that, we have lifted the ban temporarily,” part of the circular read.

According to NAB, the meeting with President Museveni has been confirmed for August 10, 2023, where the Speaker of Parliament directed the ICT committee to handle the matter.

Adding that, the Prime Minster is also set to meet with the NAB’s team in preparation for the meeting with the President.

NAB had issued a ban on coverage of all government and government’s official activities, following a Presidential directive to have all government adverts handled by Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC), a move that was not welcomed by NAB and seen as discriminatory on the part of government.
