The Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has advised the new graduands to maintain discipline and professionalism in their field of work to portray a good image of the institution.
While reading from the book of Proverbs 22:1, Kaziimba revealed that a good name is more desirable than great riches, imploring graduands to guard their names and the name of the university, because it will outlive every certificate they carry.
“As you leave the gates of Uganda Christian University today, keep discipline and represent your alma mater well. The choices you make, the conduct you exhibit, and the character you carry will either adorn or tarnish the name of this great institution,” Kaziimba said.
The Chancellor made the remarks while delivering the keynote speech on Friday, July 3rd, 2026, at Uganda Christian University in Mukono district.
He also commended the university management team for the successful preparation of the recent Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at Namugongo, adding that the university continues playing a commendable role in the preparations of such sacred national and spiritual events.
“I equally appreciate the continuing infrastructure development taking place at Namugongo, which has greatly improved the experience of the millions of pilgrims who converge there each year in honour of our martyrs. May the blood of the Martyrs continue to be the seed from which faith, courage, and national unity spring forth in our land,” Kaziimba said.
Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, the University Vice Chancellor, urged graduates to always remember that true success is measured by their service to others, their integrity in leadership, and faithfulness in every endeavour they pursue.
“Go forth as torch-bearers of these noble virtues,” Mushengyezi said.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa, the Bishop of the Diocese of Lango and Chairman of the University Council revealed that graduation is much more than the conferral of degrees and diplomas but a celebration of countless hours of study, sacrifice, resilience, and determination.
“You have reached an important stage in your life, but not the final destination. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges. The world you enter is dynamic and complex. It requires not only intellectual competence but also moral courage, ethical leadership, compassion, and unwavering integrity,” he noted.
Most Rev. Dr. Henry Luke Orombi, the Retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda argued graduands to be people who build and do not destroy whenever they go and preserve what is good and beautiful, just as the university taught them.
According to Mushengyezi, the university is now celebrating 1,274 graduates with whom 698 are women (55%) and 576 men (45%), and among them are 102 First Class graduates, 60 women and 52 men.
