The High Court’s recent ruling nullifying Hon. Jimmy Akena’s nomination as President and flag bearer of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) for the 2025–2030 term has laid bare the deep cracks in the party’s foundation. On July 18, 2025, His Lordship Justice Bernard Namanya delivered a landmark judgment declaring, “The nomination of Hon. Akena Jimmy for the office of party president of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) for the period 2025 to 2030 is illegal and therefore null and void.”

This ruling followed a legal challenge filed by Mr. Denis Adim Enap, who questioned the legitimacy of Akena’s nomination. The court not only nullified the nomination but also restrained UPC from re-nominating Akena for the same term, an extraordinary order that speaks volumes about the level of internal dysfunction within the party.

The truth is undeniable, UPC’s leadership has become entangled in internal power struggles, legal battles, and a disregard for democratic principles. This is not just a legal issue but rather a moral one. It reveals a party more focused on self-preservation than service to its people.

Nowhere is this betrayal felt more than in the Lango sub-region, once a stronghold of UPC support. For decades, the people of Lango have placed their faith in UPC, only to be met with broken promises and political stagnation.

The recent court decision confirms what many have long suspected, that the party’s leadership is not only fractured but also fundamentally lawless.

It is time for the people of Lango to rethink their political allegiance. While UPC flounders in courtrooms and committee rooms, President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government have been quietly but steadily transforming Uganda. Under Museveni’s leadership, the country has seen tangible progress, infrastructure development, expanded healthcare services, improved education, and increased access to clean water and electricity.

In the Lango region, these developments are visible, new roads, hospitals, schools, and job opportunities are gradually replacing years of neglect. This is what real leadership looks like; action, not rhetoric; service, not selfishness.

The time has come for Wan Lango to join the rest of the country in embracing a future anchored in stability, progress, and unity. Let us not be distracted by UPC’s internal chaos. Let us not be fooled again by recycled promises and political theatre. The writing is on the wall and it’s time to read it clearly.

As we approach the 2026 elections, the choice before us as Ugandans is simple, to rally behind a leader who has consistently delivered results. President Museveni’s track record speaks for itself. He has earned the trust of the nation through decades of steady leadership.

Come February 2026, let us make a bold and clear statement. Let Lango rise with the rest of Uganda. Let us vote for progress. Let us vote for President Museveni.

Together, as Wan Lango, we can be part of building a brighter, united, and prosperous Uganda.
