President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Local Council One (LCI) chairpersons across Greater Wakiso to strengthen grassroots mobilization efforts aimed at accelerating household wealth creation through government-backed programs.
The directive was delivered by the Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, on Friday, July 11, 2025, during a special meeting with village chairpersons at Memerito Hotel in Bweyogerere.

Obua relayed the President’s message emphasizing the pivotal role of LCI leaders in championing the Parish Development Model (PDM), EMYOOGA, and other socio-economic transformation initiatives.
“The President has entrusted you, as the closest leaders to the people, to ensure every household is mobilized into the money economy,” Obua told the chairpersons.

The meeting was organized as part of the preparations ahead of a grand rally scheduled for Sunday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, where President Museveni is expected to address thousands of residents from across Wakiso District.
During his recent mobilization tour of Wakiso, President Museveni held several engagements with local leaders, community members, and beneficiaries of government programs, including informal sector groups and ghetto communities. These interactions formed part of the ongoing national monitoring efforts under the Parish Development Model.
State House Comptroller Jane Barekye, who is part of the national organizing team, said the upcoming rally will serve as a milestone in demonstrating the achievements of PDM and the unity within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) structures.
“We are calling upon all residents of Wakiso to turn up in large numbers and receive the President’s message on wealth creation. This is an opportunity to reinforce the collective drive towards socio-economic transformation,” Barekye said.

The President has consistently emphasized the need to move all Ugandan households from subsistence to the money economy through sustainable income-generating activities supported under government initiatives.
Wakiso, Uganda’s most populous district, has been earmarked as a key region for showcasing the success and scalability of the Parish Development Model, which is now central to the government’s rural development strategy.
