Uganda’s creative community is mourning the sudden loss of prominent urban deejay and media personality, Michael Owori alias DJ Bush Baby who was found dead in his recording studio in Entebbe.
DJ Bush Baby was discovered unresponsive on Thursday morning after friends raised the alarm following repeated failed attempts to reach him by phone.
Authorities were called to the scene, and the area was immediately sealed off for investigation.
“We are treating this as a sudden death. The body will be taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination while investigations continue,” a senior police officer confirmed.
DJ Bush Baby was a trailblazer in Uganda’s urban music scene, widely recognized for introducing and popularizing hip hop, R&B, and contemporary international sounds to a mainstream audience.
He rose to prominence in the late 1990s on Capital FM, where his innovative mixing style earned him a loyal following.
Beyond his radio career, Bush Baby played a crucial role in developing Uganda’s urban sound, mentoring young DJs, promoting talent, and organizing music events that elevated local artistry.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of grief from artists, colleagues, and fans across the country, many describing him as a visionary who reshaped the musical landscape.
