Kole District Boss Elected Uganda Local Government Association President 

ULGA is an umbrella body of district chairpersons, city mayors and municipal mayors. It was established in 1994 with Kiwanuka Musisi being the body’s first president.

The Kole District Chairperson, Moses Awany, has been elected the Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA) President during the association’s 29th Special Annual General Meeting held at Hotel Africana, Kampala, on October 25, 2024.

Awany polled 115 votes against his only challenger, James Ategeka, the Bunyangabo district boss, who got 68 votes.

Earlier, the outgoing ULGA president, who also doubles as the Kabalore district boss, Richard Rwabuhinga, noted that the association’s survival hinges on districts and sub-counties complying with payments to finance core activities and keeping creditors at bay.

The Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, who was the chief guest, urged all district leaders to give priority to monitoring and supervision of government programs at the district level and differentiate their political differences from service delivery.

Magyezi has been engaging with local leaders in the biannual meeting with district chairpersons, city mayors, and municipal mayors for two days to boost service delivery, share best practices, and tackle challenges.

The Lwengo district chairperson, Ibrahim Kitatta, was elected the ULGA Vice President for the central region. He promised to be a voice of the voiceless and work for development in the Buganda region in terms of roads, water, and prioritizing the interests of the region.
