Police in Kalisizo have arrested four suspects to aid in investigations after thugs broke into Kalisizo Hospital’s laboratory and stole three computers.

The incident happened in the wee hours of July 28, 2024, in Kalisizo, Kyotera district.

The suspects who were arrested on July 29, 2024, have been identified as Matthias Mulindwa, the hospital security guard, and three other laboratory technicians.

During an interview with journalists on July 30, 2024, the Kalisizo Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, Asfa Ankunda, confirmed the incident and revealed that the four suspects were taken to Kalisizo Police Station so as to aid in the investigations.

Ankunda added that the stolen computers were given to the hospital by the government and had a lot of information on the hospital’s patients. She, however, noted that whoever stole them was well versed with the hospital environment and knew when to break in to avoid being caught.

’’It is so shocking that this hospital has many CCTV cameras, but the thugs dodged them, which shows that the people who stole the computers knew its weak points that did not have CCTV cameras, and it is where the thugs passed through, broke into the laboratory room, and stole the computers,’’ Ankunda noted.

Additionally, the hospital administrator, Richard Birego Bantubalamu, said that the prime suspects are the four arrested because whoever stole them knew the hospital environment inside and out.

Bantubalamu added that once the investigations are done, the truth will be revealed and justice will be served.

’’Despite the hospital having many CCTV cameras, these thugs dodged them, but whoever did this will be caught soon once the investigations are done by police,’’ Bantubalamu disclosed.

Ankunda indicated that further investigations are underway, and a statement will be issued once they are completed.
