Six siblings have perished in a fire outbreak that gutted the house they were living in in Namulanda Zone B, in Kajjansi Town Council in Wakiso district.

This tragic incident happened on May 15, 2024, at 1:00 a.m., leaving six siblings dead and two women in critical condition.

According to the locals, the deceased and the survivors were all South Sudanese nationals: four young children and two teenagers.

While being interviewed by journalists in Entebbe, Joseph Ssemwogerere, a councillor in Kajjansi Town Council, said that by the time the police and locals came to their rescue, the house was already gutted by the fire and the kids were already dead.

“The rental house that the deceased were staying in belonged to Rafael Mayanja Ssendugge, and he was the one who went to Kisubi police to report the fire, but they took long to reach the crime scene,’’ Ssemwogerere revealed.

Ssemwogerere added that they managed to save two women who were in dire condition and rushed them to the hospital.

According to Albashir Kayondo Ndawula, the LC III Chairperson from Kajjansi Town Council, the building that got burned looked strong, but it was built in a small space and had no exit, which might be the reason why the house occupants could not escape easily.

The police said that a statement would be released soon after thorough investigations.
