Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidates for parliamentary and local government positions gathered at Senior Quarters in Lira City for a special retreat convened by Party President Jimmy Akena.

The retreat aimed to prepare candidates for the official start of campaigns on November 10, 2025, in line with the Independent Electoral Commission’s roadmap ahead of the 2026 general elections.

During the weekly press conference on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Sharon Arach Oyat, the party spokesperson, said that retreat provided an opportunity to thoroughly analyze and communicate the party’s central campaign message to all candidates.

“The message is anchored on investing in the welfare of Ugandans as the nation’s greatest asset,” she said.

Arach noted that Akena urged party members and the public to “close the chapter and open the future,” emphasizing a vision that spans a lifetime, a generation, and a nation.

She stated that the President stressed that the UPC’s campaign machinery is fully prepared to traverse the country following a harmonized strategy. He emphasized the importance of unity, focus, hard work, and sacrifice as critical ingredients for success in the forthcoming elections.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding Uganda and improving citizen welfare by ensuring equitable access to essential services such as education, healthcare, employment, and shelter. A special focus was placed on revitalizing the livestock economy, particularly in sub-regions like Teso, Acholi, Lango, Karamoja, and West Nile.

Additionally, she said that the party has called upon all leaders and members to fully support their candidates from the start of the campaigns through to polling day.

Akena pledged to lead the campaigns personally, demonstrating the party’s strong commitment to electoral success.

UPC is positioning itself as a united and focused force ready to promote sustainable development and improve the welfare of all Ugandans. With a clear campaign strategy and revitalization initiatives such as livestock revival, the party aims to make a significant impact in the 2026 general elections.
