Rukungiri District has received its first digital X-ray machine in a public health facility since its establishment in 1974. The equipment, valued at 145 million Ugandan shillings, was donated by the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) to the Government of Uganda and the Ministry of Health.
During an official handover ceremony at the district headquarters on Tuesday July 15, 2025, key leaders including the District Health Officer, LC5 Chairperson, Resident District Commissioner (RDC), and other officials welcomed the new equipment, which will be stationed at Bugangari Health Centre IV.
RDC Steven Nsubuga Bewayo emphasized that the machine is mobile and can be used in other health camps or emergencies across the district. He urged the trained staff to use and safeguard the equipment responsibly.
Previously, patients had to travel long distances to private or regional facilities for X-ray services. With this development, residents will now access imaging services closer to home, within a government-run facility.
Bugangari Health Centre IV also recently received an ultrasound machine, marking a significant step forward in enhancing healthcare delivery in the district.
This donation represents a milestone in public healthcare for Rukungiri, bringing essential diagnostic services directly to the community for the first time.
