The National Unity Platform (NUP) party activists have given the Uganda Police and sister security agencies 48 hours to produce Sharon Kemigisha, the Woman Councillor for Wandegeya who was allegedly kidnapped on February 23, 2024.

While addressing the press in Katanga Zone on February 28, 2024, the NUP head of institutions, David Musiri, gave security agencies 48 hours to produce Kemigisha, whether dead or alive.

Musiri said if she is not produced within the stipulated time, they will march to every security agency office, starting with Kireka Safe House, demanding the release of Kemigisha and other political prisoners.

“We appeal to Uganda police, the Chief of Military Intelligence, the Internal Security Organization, and all sister agencies to release Kemigisha or at least produce her in court martial and charge her for any crimes committed,” Musiri said.

“Sharon had just launched her book, which was against the dictator, and we are very sure it’s the reason she was kidnapped. The government wants to instill fear in NUP supporters to keep them silent,” Musiri added.

According to Kemigisha’s husband, Haruna Kasozi, he last talked to Kemigisha on February 23, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., when she was in Kyengera. He says that after that, her phone went off, and she was never heard of again.

“I went to the Kyengera police post and reported the case, then proceeded to the Mulago accident ward, and she wasn’t there. I then proceeded to the Mulago mortuary, and she wasn’t among those on the list, and we even checked all the dead bodies, and she wasn’t among them,“ Kasozi said.

“The children at home are asking for her; her friends and family are calling asking for her; and even her voters keep calling asking for her, and I have no answer for them,” Kasozi added.

Kemigisha joins a list of other alleged kidnapped NUP supporters, who have disappeared for years, months, and have not been accounted for.

The leadership of the National Unity Platform has in the past put the government under pressure to account for the missing Ugandans, though the government insists that the alleged number of missing persons by the National Unity Platform is exaggerated and others are not missing.
