The Uganda Police Force has commended the public and religious leaders for ensuring a calm and incident-free Easter season, following nationwide celebrations marked by large gatherings and coordinated security operations.

Addressing journalists today March 7th 2026, at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said the Easter festivities concluded successfully, with no major security incidents reported despite high attendance at churches and public processions.

“The Easter season ended peacefully across the country, with large numbers attending church services and successful Way of the Cross processions, all held without major incidents,” ACP Rusoke stated.

According to Police, the peaceful environment resulted from close collaboration between security agencies, religious institutions, and the general public, with authorities maintaining a heightened security presence at key locations including places of worship and major urban centers to manage crowds and prevent crime.

ACP Rusoke attributed the calm environment to strong cooperation among the public, religious leaders, and security agencies, who worked closely together to maintain order throughout the holiday period.

“The calm and order witnessed during the Easter period was a result of strong cooperation between the public, religious leaders, and security agencies, who worked closely together throughout the celebrations,” the police spokesperson added.

He further revealed that security agencies conducted intelligence-led operations targeting suspected criminal elements in various regions and these operations resulted in several arrests and the recovery of stolen items, contributing to the overall security of the holiday period.

“Police and sister security agencies launched intelligence-led operations against criminals nationwide, leading to multiple arrests and recoveries,” ACP Rusoke noted.

To manage heavy traffic during the celebrations, police deployed officers along major highways and intensified operations against drunk-driving, aiming to reduce road accidents and ensure smooth movement

Despite the overall success of the security operations, police recorded a number of serious road crashes, highlighting ongoing challenges in road safety.

“Road accidents remain a threat therefore drivers are urged to stay alert and responsible,” the police spokesperson cautioned.

Police say the largely peaceful Easter celebrations demonstrate the effectiveness of early planning, coordinated deployment, and public cooperation.

However, authorities emphasized the need for continued vigilance, particularly in enforcing traffic regulations and preventing avoidable accidents.

The successful Easter celebrations show the importance of collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, and the public in maintaining peace and order.

Police have urged Ugandans to carry forward this spirit of cooperation beyond the holiday period, especially by observing road safety rules and remaining vigilant against crime, to ensure communities remain safe throughout the year.
