The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party is set to petition the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, Parliament, and other organs that appoint and approve judges to halt Justice Emmanuel Baguma from handling the Treason case of Dr. Kizza Besigye, citing bias.
According to Lulume Bayiga, the Deputy Party President in charge of Buganda, Baguma is accused of being in bed with the state to deny Besigye true justice, calling upon all change-seeking Ugandans to rally behind the party and sign the petition against Justice Baguma.
While addressing journalists on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, at the party headquarters on Katonga Road in Kampala, Erias Lukwago, the PFF party President also asked the Uganda Law Society (ULS) to take an interest in demanding Justice for Besigye who has been allegedly persecuted by Justice Baguma.
“We have been observing a man who is presiding over a sensitive case that involves the execution of the accused, unleashes anger against the accused and behaves as a state machinery to deny Besigye Justice closer to two years,” Lulume said.
Ambassador Waiswa Birigwa, the deputy head of the Council of Emminent persons said that the party will use its structures to gather over a million signatures to endorse the petition against Justice Baguma.
“We are going to move around the country to collect a million signatures that support our petition against Baguma. I have been in court since Besigye’s case started but I have witnessed Justice dying. Baguma does not care what the law says and sometimes you wonder if he is a Ugandan because if you are a true Ugandan you cannot do what Baguma did two days ago,” Birigwa said.
Ingrid Turinawe, the party Chairperson of the Women’s League said they recognise that Besigye should be prosecuted because it’s embedded in the Ugandan law but his case should be presided over by another professional judge with no partisan tendencies.
PFF’s petition follows the chaos that erupted on June 8th, 2026, when Justice Baguma abruptly stormed out of the courtroom while Besigye was delivering a verbal submission challenging his legal code of conduct, impartiality and the independence of the court.
Besigye is accused since November 2024, of holding secret meetings in different countries to contrived a plot to forcefully overthrow the government. Consequently, he was charged with treason charges and he is being detained at Luzira Prison.
