President Yoweri Museveni is expected to visit Oyam and Pakwach Districts in Northern Uganda today 7th October, 2025, for a campaign rally ahead of the upcoming elections. His visit continues efforts to connect with communities benefiting from government development programs.
Oyam, part of the Lango sub-region that once faced conflict and climate problems, has seen big changes in recent years. These changes have come through modern farming and other community programs.
The Parish Development Model (PDM), a government program that supports local communities, has played a key role in this progress.
Farmers have joined organized SACCOs, which help them grow crops and raise animals. This has led to more income and stronger communities in the Lango sub-region.
Kitutu Fredrick Herbert, the Chief Administrative Officer of Oyam District, explained that the program supports growing crops like sorghum, maize, sunflower, and soybeans, as well as poultry and goat farming.
“To help farmers sell their produce, we train them to improve their harvests and reach markets faster,” Kitutu added.
Local people have shared their success stories. Owiny Tony, from Oyam Town Council, Easter Ward, said, “We had six months of training. We learned how to get loans from the program and how to use the money wisely.”
Miriam Ocer, also from Oyam Town Council, Easter Ward, runs a piggery. She said she received PDM funds in June last year, which helped her expand her farm.
Denis Awulu used the support for cereal farming, and Molly Akol started a poultry business. All of them thanked the government for supporting community development.
Pakwach District, in the West Nile sub-region along the Albert Nile, has also benefited from PDM. The program has boosted farming, fishing, and small businesses in the area. With rich land and active fishing communities, farmers in Pakwach have received funding, training, and access to markets.
The President’s visit to Oyam and Pakwach today is both for development monitoring and political outreach.
Local residents see these programs as a way to improve their lives, and the rally gives them a chance to meet the President before the elections.
