One person has been confirmed dead following an incident of electricity vandalism in Nakapinyi Village, Kasenge Parish, Nama Subcounty, Mukono District.

The incident occurred during the nights of 18th and 19th November 2025, when a group of unknown individuals attempted to vandalize a high-voltage power transmission tower connected to the Namawojolo power sub-station.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased became trapped within the angle bars of the tower and died instantly. He was found hanging on the structure, dressed in a blue overall.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident.

“The deceased was part of a group cutting the high-voltage tower structure when he was fatally trapped during the collapse attempt,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

It is reported that the act of vandalism also caused damage to another tower located about half a kilometer away, raising concerns about potential power disruptions in the area.

A joint team of Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) officers and Mukono Police visited and examined the scene. Statements have been obtained from residents, photographs captured, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.

“We are actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest the other suspects involved. Safety and accountability remain our top priorities,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.

Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activity near electricity installations, warning that vandalism not only endangers lives but also risks widespread power disruptions.
