Mityana: Religious Leaders Unite to Empower Youth on Faith and Growth Pathways

“When you have gatherings such as this, pick out something important that will transform your life. We discuss developmental issues, let such engagements be an eye opener. Don’t settle for less. Avoid engaging in activities that bar you from having hope. Always aspire for greatness,”Rev Fr Ssekisambu noted.

Catholic priests, Rev Fr Simon Peter Buyondo and Rev Fr Remigius Ssekisambu, have called for patience, hope and the promotion of peace among Uganda’s young people.

Clerics and government officials in Mityana have called on youth to anchor their lives in faith while actively participating in programs that promote personal and economic development.

The message was delivered during the Kiyinda-Mityana Cathedral Youth Parish Day celebrations held under the theme, ‘Hope.’

The Chief Guest, Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Lands advised youth to embrace government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Youth Livelihood, and Emyooga programs, noting that personal growth comes from hard work and practical engagement.

“Work hard and strive for development. Avoid politics of interest but rather concentrate on how to move from one level to another,” Nabakooba said.

Kisubi Seminary’s Rev Fr Simon Peter Buyondo encouraged youth to place their hope and trust in Jesus Christ, a virtue which is key to good decision-making.

“Hope does not disappoint and patience pays. When you hold on hope, good things await you, and a person with hope works towards achieving good things,” Rev Fr Buyondo said.

Fr Buyondo told the youth to unite, participate in mass gatherings, and engage in church activities, including Holy Matrimony.

Representing the parish priest, Rev Fr Remigius Ssekisambu explained the importance of youth gatherings for spiritual and personal development.

However, he warned against antisocial behaviors such as drug use, theft, and hatred among unguided youth.

Youth chaplain Rev Fr Richard Kalyango thanked Minister Nabakooba for her continued support and revealed plans for an event organizing project to empower youth with skills in event management, including hiring tents, chairs, and decorations.

Joseph Nambaale, youth leader in Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, also commended the minister for her guidance and financial support, emphasizing her consistent involvement in youth development initiatives.
