Kampala City Tycoon’s Mother Passes on in Germany

According to a family statement, Mrs Basajjabalaba, aged 80, died on Monday evening in Germany where she had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

The family of businessman and philanthropist Hajj Dr Hassan Basajjabalaba has confirmed the passing of his mother, Hajjat Azida Nanteza Basajjabalaba, in Cologne, Germany, following a prolonged illness.

According to a family statement, Mrs Basajjabalaba, aged 80, died on Monday evening in Germany where she had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

In a public message, Kampala International University (KIU), where Hassan Basajjabalaba serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees, sent out condolences to their long serving proprietor.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hajjat Azida Basajjabalaba, mother of our esteemed Chairman, Board of Trustees, Hajj Dr Hassan Basajjabalaba,” KIU wrote.

Margaret Muhanga, the State Minister for Primary and Healthcare also conveyed her sympathies on X (formerly Twitter), paying tribute to Hajjat Azida as ‘extremely kind & loving.

“May the angels receive her in glory,” Minister Muhanga said.

The family has not yet released full details of the funeral arrangements and has requested privacy as they make preparations.
