FDC Mourns NUP’s Nakimuli

Amuriat stated that Nakimuli was not just a member of the NUP party but a daughter of Kalangala, a voice for the voiceless on the 84 islands, and a patriot who carried the hopes of fisherfolk, women, and youth to the floor of Parliament.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has mourned the National Unity Platform (NUP) fallen Kalangala district Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister for Information and National Guidance, Hellen Nakimuli, who allegedly died on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at Alexandria Medical Centre after an unsuccessful operation.

According to Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the FDC party President, political differences should not undermine the sense of humanity in grieving with those who are grieving, adding that the struggle for good governance should unite them beyond party colors.

“Though we stood on different political platforms, in death we are reminded that we serve one Uganda and that the struggle for a better country unites us beyond party colors,” Amuriat said.

In a statement released on Monday, April 20th, 2026, Amuriat stated that Nakimuli was not just a member of the NUP party but a daughter of Kalangala, a voice for the voiceless on the 84 islands, and a patriot who carried the hopes of fisherfolk, women, and youth to the floor of Parliament.

“To our colleagues, the leadership, and the faithful of the National Unity Platform, we mourn with you in losing Hon. Nakimuli. You have lost a dedicated cadre, a grassroots mobilizer, and a sister whose courage inspired many young women to believe they too could lead. Her seat in the 11th Parliament may now be empty, but the convictions she championed social justice, accountability, and dignity for all remain. May her example strengthen your resolve to continue the work she began,” Amuriat stated.

He also extended condolences to the voters in Kalangala who had entrusted late Nakimuli to represent them in parliament, adding that they should be encouraged and continue the struggle as a gift to the deceased.

“The pain of losing Hon. Nakimuli is immeasurable and shared across the country and the political divide. From Bugala to Bubeke, from Bufumira to Kyamuswa, Hon. Nakimuli was your defender. She spoke for your landing sites, your schools, your health centres, and your right to be heard. A mother has been taken from you too soon. We pray that the Lord comforts every household in the Ssese Islands,” Amuriat added.

According to Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, the arrangements for Nakimuli’s send-off will be communicated later.
