Electoral Commission Issues Dates for Nominees to Submit Academic Documents

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced dates when nominees are required to submit their academic documents to the Commission in preparation for the 2026 general elections.

This was revealed during the Electoral Commission launch of the strategic plan 2022/23-2026/27 and the road map, at Hotel Africana ahead of the 2025-2026 general elections.

According to Leonard Mulekwa, the Secretary to the Electoral Commission, the estimated cost of implementing the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap, stands at Ugx. 1,387,820,991,029/=

Mulekwa added that, however, the deadline for the establishment of academic papers with the EC by aspiring candidate of local government will take place on July, 3, 2025, while the Presidential will be on August, 1, 2025, and Parliamentary elections will be on June, 13, 2025.

Mulekwa said that the nomination for Presidential candidates will be held on 2nd and 3rd October 2025, while the polling dates for the Presidential, parliamentary and local government will be held starting January 12, 2026, ending February 9, 2026.

“I call upon all political parties and all key stake holders to work hand in hand with the Electoral Commission so that the country can have peaceful 2026 general elections,” Mulekwa stated.

The mission of the Electoral Commission is to organize, conduct and supervise regular, free and fair elections and referendum through citizen Participation, stakeholder engagement and information sharing to enhance democracy and good governance.

The guest of honor was Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister and Head of Government Business. Also in attendance was the Minister for Presidency, Milly Babalanda and Minister for Justice, Norbert Mao.

The event was also attended by members from different political parties, government, civil society, diplomats and general public.
