Kizza Besigye and co-accused Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya will have to wait until the next court appearance scheduled for April 11, 2025, for their bail hearing.

This comes after the high court judge, Justice Kania Rossette, adjourned the case hearing, stating that the prosecution was not ready.

During the hearing, Justice Kania read out the schedules and adjourned court till April 11, 2025, when Besigye and co-accused Obeid Lutale will appear for the court ruling on their bail application status.

The Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, expressed disappointment in the state prosecutors for the continued delay of justice for his comrade.

“It is very absurd that Dr Besigye is being taken back to Luzira, having in mind that he is not healthy and very frail; he has been in jail since 16th November, 2024, and we hoped he would have been set free,” Lukwago said.

Lukwago accused the state of using all sorts of delaying tactics to deny Dr Besigye his freedom, vowing his support till his release.

“The government is playing delaying tactics to deny Dr. Besigye justice, but we shall be patient, and our expectations were that today we were going back with him, and now they have been dashed,” Lukwago added.

Dr Kizza Besigye and co-accused Obeid Lutale were arrested in November 2024 at Riverside Apartments in Nairobi and were brought to the Uganda court martial, which charged them with possessing ammunition and soliciting logistical support with intent to prejudice the security of the defense forces of Uganda.

However, on January 31st, 2025, the supreme court ruled that civilians should not be tried in the military courts, and that’s when Dr. Kizza Besigye’s case was transferred to the high court, which he has been appearing in ever since and still awaits his bail hearing.
