Authorities in Mpigi District, have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of a 67-year-old woman whose body was discovered dumped in a coffee plantation.

The deceased has been identified as Christine Nantale, a resident of Buyongo Village. Nantale’s body was found in a pool of blood on the evening of Sunday, May 18, 2025, in a coffee plantation located in Gimbi Magala Village in Muduma Sub county.

According to local residents, Nantale was last seen on the night of Saturday, May 17 2025, drinking at various bars in Magala Town. The news of her lifeless body being found shocked the community.

Speaking to the media on May 19 2025, Nantale’s son, Sempijja, revealed that he spent the whole day of May 18 searching for his mother in different bars around Magala, only to receive the devastating news that her body had been discovered in a disturbing state.

“I did not know my mother had a drinking problem. However, it was wrong for anyone to take her life in such a cruel manner,” he said.

Local Council I Chairperson of Magala-Muduma, Richard Bukenya, blamed the tragedy on the widespread abuse of drugs and alcohol in the area.

“Drugs and alcohol are rampant here, and people are dying due to reckless behaviour,”  Bukenya said.

He also raised concerns about the failure of local authorities to register new residents, which he believes is contributing to increased crime.

“The local council leaders are not keeping track of new people in the area. This makes it easy for criminals to operate unnoticed,” Bukenya added.

Bukenya warned community members to avoid moving alone late at night, especially after drinking because such hours are dangerous and criminals use that time to target and attack unsuspecting individuals.

Police in Jezza have since transferred Nantale’s body to Mityana General Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
