Lady Cranes Finish Fourth at World Rugby Sevens Challenger in Uruguay

The Lady Cranes Rugby team finished 4th in the just concluded World HSBC 7s Challenger in Montevideo, Uruguay, as China claimed the women’s title.

The Cranes lost the women’s 3rd place play-off to Belgium 27:12. The team had a good start to the competition, topping Pool C and winning the quarterfinals against Hong Kong China, 22:17.

Then they played the semi-finals against dominating women’s champions China, losing 10:26.

However, the Rugby Cranes finished 6th after losing to Germany in the men’s 5th place play-off.

The hosts, Uruguay and China women claimed titles in the second round of the World HSBC 7s Challenger in Montevideo.

China continued to dominate women’s competition with a 38-7 defeat of Argentina as Belgium won bronze.

While Uruguay beat Hong Kong China 28-0 in the men’s final to thrill the home crowd, Kenya took bronze.

China leads the women’s standings with 40 points, Argentina with 34, and Belgium and Uganda with 28.

Uruguay and Kenya top the men’s standings with 36 points, followed by Chile with 32 and Germany with 26.

The top four placed teams after three rounds will go to a new promotion and relegation play-off competition at the HSBC SVNS 2024 Grand Final in Madrid.
