The long awaited UB40 featuring Ali Campbell finally came to pass on Saturday, February 2, 2024, at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala. It was an unforgettable night as they revellers were left yarning for more.
The English singer and songwriter who was the lead singer and co-founder of the British reggae band UB40, Alistar Ian Campbell, commonly known as Ali Campbell, gave Ugandan music lovers a run for their money, in a highly anticipated concert dubbed “Nobody Can Stop Reggae,” following a confirmation from the organisers.
Uganda party lovers once again got a chance to experience the unforgetable moments with the UB40 singer Campbell who had last stepped feet in Uganda in 2008 with the band.
As promised by the event organisers, the gates were open by 2:00 pm, and revellers started receiving entertainment from Eijah kitata, Navio and Weasle whose performance was lightened up by fire works blown right from 8:55 pm to 9:00 pm, to celebrate the major event’s organiser 15 years in existance.
The concert comprised of Ugandan artists like Vinka, Vampino, Abeeka band, Bebe Cool, and Salvador as MC of the nigt who brought the revellers to a party mood in preparation for the man of the night, Campbell.
Ugandan Reggae artist, Bebe Cool, prepared the raggae fans to welcome the man of the night on stage, and at 10:21pm, Campbell who came on stage flanked by his band took the revellers to a moment of ectacy.
“Uganda we love you,” Campbell assured the fans.
The party goers could not believe the level of organisation with Campbell’s team taking over 30 minutes organising the equipment and sound.
Notable public figures like the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem; the CEO Next Media, Kin Kariisa and many others were in attendance to experience the incomparable musical moments with the reggae music giant, Campbell.
The man of the night took the revellers through songs like Red Red Wine, Falling in Love with You, Come Back Darling, Moonlight Lover, Where Did I Go Wrong, Don’t Break My Heart, and Cherry Oh Baby, among others, that made fans dance to the music tune.
In 2023, Ali Campbell visited and performed in countries like the UK, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Greece, Spain, USA and Hawaii on January 21, 2024.
The show ended at 11:58 pm leaving his fans yearning for more.
