The Office of the Leader of Opposition (LoP), under Joel Ssenyonyi, has sworn in shadow cabinet ministers at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

The swearing-in happened on February 23, 2024, as LoP Ssenyonyi read to the general public the priority areas of the opposition.

While addressing fellow members of parliament, key stakeholders, and members of the press, Ssenyonyi asked the ministers who took the oath to remain steadfast.

“May they not see us as part of the problem, but let them see us as part of the solution,” Ssenyonyi said.

He further called upon MPs to remain steadfast and ready for the upcoming challenges.

“We will face numerous challenges, but as we keep doing what we ought to do, we shall triumph over them. The government has already withdrawn our transport for monitoring, like the use of coasters, but we shall use other means,” Ssenyonyi emphasized.

“We shall keep the government in check at parliament, and we shall also continue going to the field to keep them in check there as well. Whoever is frustrating our work, we are putting you on notice,” Ssenyonyi added.

Among those sworn in were Hon. Ssemuju Nganda (FDC) as Shadow Minister for Finance, Planning, and Economic Development; Hon. Zaake Francis (NUP) as Shadow Minister for Presidency and Security; and Hon. Akello Lucy (FDC) as Minister for East African Affairs.

Hon. Lutamaguzi Semakula (DP), Shadow Minister for Land, Housing, and Urban Development, and Shamim Malende (NUP), Shadow Minister for Justice were also sworn in.

The meeting was attended by numerous members of the parliament from different political parties, members of civil society, the general public, and members of the press.
