The government of Uganda has delivered a total of eight hand-held tractors to Ajuri County, Alebtong district, to boost agricultural production.

While handing over the tractors to the benefiting sub counties on Thursday, November 9, 2023, Government Chief Whip and Ajuri County MP Denis Hanson Obua said this is a pilot program to facilitate commercial agriculture.

Accompanied by Alebtong District Woman MP Dorcas Acen, Obua encouraged local residents to fully take advantage of the government’s effort to mechanize agriculture.

Eng. Alex Birungi, a senior officer from the Ministry of Agriculture, said the hand-held tractor is equipped to plough three acres of land using three liters of diesel per day.

Obua then urged local residents to use these tractors to escalate the commercialization of agriculture as a means to eradicate poverty and boost household income.

The function was witnessed by all the local council officials drawn from all eight sub counties in Ajuri County.

President Yoweri K. Museveni has a number of times emphasized the government’s commitment to boost commercial agriculture in the country by embracing mechanization of agriculture as a means of boosting food in Uganda, both for local consumption and export, given that it is the backbone of Uganda.
