Sembwa Rabinson, a man suspected of being behind illegal logging activities in Mabira Forest, has been charged with illegal possession of forest produce.
He was arraigned before Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on September 27, 2023, by police working with the Statehouse Anti-Corruption Unit.
The accused was found in possession of over 200 pieces of timber cut from Mabira forest following a search at his stores near the forest in Najjembe division, Lugazi Municipality.
The Statehouse Anti-Corruption Unit began investigations into the illegal destruction of Mabira Forest following a directive from the President of Uganda to stop the illegal activities in Mabira Forest.
Sembwa has been repeatedly arrested and charged with the same. He has been remanded until October 12th, 2023.
