President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the 2nd national ICT job fair being organized by the Ministry of Information, Communications Technology, and National Guidance in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Uganda.

Jessy Ofwoni, the Senior Communications Officer at the Ministry of ICT, said the event that will take place September 26–27, 2023, at Kololo ceremonial grounds will focus more on resolving the high unemployment rate among young people.

Ofwoni noted that it will also foster growth in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector and create a platform for Uganda’s youth to connect with numerous employers in the ICT industry.

He said that with over 70% of Uganda’s population aged between 18 and 30, the unemployment rate among youth stands at a staggering 41%, highlighting the urgency of such initiatives.”

According to Ofwoni, the fair further aims at increasing employment opportunities for the youth, enhancing employer branding and recruitment, and fostering networking among job seekers through workshops and training programmes.

The National ICT Job Fair will bring together key stakeholders, including government agencies, ICT firms, educational institutions, and job seekers, with the goal of bridging the gap between job seekers and employers in the ICT sector.

Last year’s inaugural job fair held at Makerere University created over 1,000 opportunities from some 100 companies, including jobs, internships, and training.
