SCP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson has warned the public that the threats of terrorism within the country are still serious.

His warning follows the successful recovery of six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) within the Kampala Metropolitan areas of Mabiito in Nateete, Ngobe in Bunamwaya, Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral and Lungujja.

According to Enanga, two of the six suspects were released while the four who are highly linked to the bomb threats are still in custody and the manhunt for the other suspects is still ongoing.

“The Joint Anti-terrorism task team that is investigating the bomb threat continues to pursue several lines of inquiry to establish whether the IEDs are linked, how the devices are prepared and persons instigating the acts of terrorism,” Enanga said.

He applauded the Joint Task Team for doing everything possible to keep the public in Kampala Metropolitan safe.

He also added that, the country will never be intimidated by terrorism and that security will defeat those who seek to harm citizens and antagonize the peace of Ugandans.

The police has urged all Ugandans and visitors in the country to remain vigilant, because the use of IEDs by suspected ADF rebels poses a serious threat to the prevailing peace, safety and security in the country.

On Sunday, September 3, 2023, Ibrahim Kintu, a 28-year-old man was arrested as he was entering Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral Church with a deadly bomb in his bag. Following his interrogation, he revealed a plot involving five other terrorists and led the police to a rented house in Lungujja where more bombs packed in metallic food flasks, back packs, sim cards, and mobile phones, among others were found.
