President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged to address the remaining requirements for Uganda to be ready to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) with Kenya and Tanzania.

Museveni made the commitment on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026, during a meeting with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General, Samson Adamu and a technical delegation assessing Uganda’s preparations for the June 2027 tournament.

The CAF team, which included the CAF Country Infrastructure Manager, Bianca Wambui, inspected stadiums, training facilities and other infrastructure before briefing the President on its findings.

Wambui commended the progress made so far, particularly in the development of stadiums and training grounds.

“I would like to commend the efforts that have been put in so far, especially in terms of the stadiums and training grounds. The progress is commendable,” she said.

“We hosted NAM here, which comprised 150 countries, and we were able to deal with them. The Kampala area has the facilities, but now the challenge is upcountry, which we are now going to concentrate on,” the President said.

He assured the CAF delegation that the government would take the necessary steps to meet the outstanding requirements.

“I will unlock whatever needs to be unlocked, and I’m very sure the AFCON people will be very happy when they come here,” President Museveni said.

The CAF delegation also asked Uganda to fast-track a single visa arrangement with Kenya and Tanzania to ease the movement of football fans, teams and tournament officials across the three host countries.

The proposed arrangement is intended to simplify cross-border travel during AFCON 2027, which will be jointly hosted by the three East African countries.

Museveni said he would follow up with his counterparts in Kenya and Tanzania, adding that discussions on the proposal had already begun.

“I have got all my orders, and I’m going to implement them,” President Museveni said.

The President also met the National AFCON Task Force, led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, for an update on Uganda’s preparations for the tournament.

The task force briefed the President on activities being undertaken by Government ministries, departments and agencies involved in preparations for the continental championship.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president Moses Magogo and other government officials.

Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania will jointly host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations under the Pamoja arrangement, bringing the continental tournament to East Africa.
