PFF Seeks to Know Besigye’s Whereabouts after Visiting Empty Prison

“We have information that Besigye might be admitted to Mbuya Military Hospital. But why did they transfer him there, because he needs to continue with his specialized medication in Mulago? If he is not treated in Mulago, where else can he be treated? Maybe abroad, but not in any facility in Uganda apart from Mulago,” Turinawe noted.

The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party has appealed to the authorities of the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) to reveal the whereabouts of Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was allegedly discharged from Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he was receiving specialized treatment after his collapse at the High Court in Kampala during a court session.

According to Ingrid Turinawe, the party Chief Mobilizer, the party leadership has established Besigye’s absence in Murchison Bay Prison after conducting a visit, yet they believed that Besigye was taken back to prison cells after he was secretly discharged from the Mulago hospital.

“We want to know where Besigye is because he has not appeared in a place known by the public. We are being forced to think that he is receiving treatment in the basement. However, our humble request is that Besigye should be evacuated and taken abroad for specialized treatment just like some other person,” Turinawe said.

While addressing the media on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, at the party headquarters on Katonga Road in Kampala, Turinawe added that government should first save Besigye’s life before proceeding with prosecution because a person who cannot talk and stand cannot stand trial.

According to Turinawe, Besigye might be receiving treatment from Mbuya Military Hospital as the government aims to gather medical reports that will justify Besigye standing trial on August 18th, 2026. However, she thinks that Besigye is not safe in the hands of the government doctors, who are serving the interests of “Besigye’s enemies,” adding that he should be allowed to receive medication in a health facility that is known to the public.

However, in a press release issued on August 11th, 2026, the Uganda Prisons Service  dismissed claims of Dr. Kizza Besigye’s whereabouts saying he was discharged on August 7th, 2026, back to Luzira Prisons Hospital after 10-days admission at Mulago National Referral Hospital and is currently being taken care of by the UPS medical team for a steady improvement.

The treason trial of Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye is currently halted while the High Court evaluates his medical fitness to stand trial following his collapse in court.
