Several African leaders and foreign delegations have arrived in Uganda on Monday, May 11th, 2026, ahead of President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, with South Sudan’s President Mayardit Salva Kiir among the first heads of state welcomed at State House Entebbe.

The arrivals underscored Uganda’s growing regional influence and longstanding political and economic ties across Africa.

President Museveni personally received South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir at State House Entebbe on Monday, May 11th, 2026, and through his official X account, Museveni described Salva Kiir as a “brother” and reaffirmed the close relationship between the two nations.

“I have received my brother, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, at State House Entebbe together with his delegation ahead of the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow,” Museveni said.

“I warmly welcome him and wish him a fruitful stay as we continue to strengthen the historic brotherly ties and cooperation between our two countries,” he added.

South Sudan said Kiir’s presence reflects the enduring friendship, shared history, and strong regional cooperation between Kampala and Juba.

Also arriving in Uganda were Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Rwanda’s Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Uganda also welcomed Algeria’s parliamentary leader Azouz Nasri, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, alongside the first-ever delegation from Turkmenistan to attend a Ugandan presidential inauguration.

The May 12th ceremony will be held under the theme “Protecting the Gains: Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”
