Uganda and Belgium have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional security collaboration following a high-level meeting between Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and Belgian Ambassador to Uganda, Hugues Chantry.

Discussions were held at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe on Friday, 28th November, 2025.

According to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the discussions focused extensively on the shifting security dynamics in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa, with both sides emphasizing the need for enhanced collaboration to tackle cross-border threats.

Gen. Muhoozi highlighted Uganda’s continued contribution to regional stability through ongoing missions, including the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Operation Shujaa in Eastern DR Congo, and peace building efforts in South Sudan.

“Many of the challenges our region faces are transnational and no single country can address them alone. We value partners like Belgium who are willing to work with us to promote peace and stability,” the CDF  said.

He also encouraged the Belgian delegation, which included senior military and diplomatic officials such as Defence Advisor Col. Michel Recourto, to deepen cooperation in defence support, intelligence sharing, and joint strategic planning.

Ambassador Chantry praised Uganda’s long-standing role in stabilization operations across the region, describing the bilateral relationship as constructive and dependable.

“Uganda continues to play an essential role in efforts to stabilize the region. Belgium appreciates this partnership, and we are committed to strengthening our cooperation in areas that support peace and security,’’ he stated.

The two delegations also exchanged views on the broader regional security environment, analyzing ongoing operations and areas where coordinated action could yield greater impact.

Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming their shared commitment to continue exploring new avenues for collaboration aimed at safeguarding peace in East and Central Africa.
