The former Kampala RCC, Hudu Hussein has rejected the results of the just-concluded NRM primaries for Mbale City Northern Division, citing election irregularities and voter intimidation.

The vote, held on July 17, 2025, saw Umaru Nangoli declared winner with 22,166 votes against Hudu’s 21,575 a margin of 591 votes.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Hudu thanked his supporters but described the election as a “sham,” claiming it was marred by forgery, tampering with voter registers, and widespread voter intimidation.

“What we witnessed was a great defilement of the very stone upon which the party is anchored,” he said.

He further alleged that some of his supporters were prevented from voting, others were bullied at polling stations, and that voters were allowed to cast ballots in more than one village.

“This is not my first election. I know how to concede when the voice of the people is respected and when I lose. But I also know when an election has been rigged,” Hudu said.

Hudu stated he would petition the NRM electoral tribunal to challenge the outcome and restore faith in the party’s democratic process.

“This battle is not just about being an MP. This is about restoring the honor of the many people who took time to go and vote trusting the transparency of the election,” he explained.

On his part, Nangoli has not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations, but sources close to his camp maintain that the vote was free and fair, reflecting the will of the people.

Despite the tension, Hudu urged his supporters to remain calm and optimistic.

“Do not lose hope or feel dejected at all. This is merely the first half,” he said.

The NRM party has not officially commented on the petition but is expected to handle any disputes through its electoral tribunal.
