One person has died and six others left nursing injuries following a fatal crash that occurred yesterday May 25, 2025 at around 5:45 PM at Lwafumu Forest, Bunjako–Buwama in Mpigi District.
The crash involved motor vehicle UBM 672G (Drone), whose driver is currently on the run.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was speeding and carrying passengers in a dangerously unsafe manner.
The vehicle reportedly lost control, hit a pavement & overturned; killing 1 passenger instantly and injuring six others.
According to one eyewitness, Linda Kebirungi, the individuals on the vehicle appeared heavily drunk, making a lot of unnecessarily noise and wore skimpy outfits.
While speaking to our reporter, Kebirungi narrated she saw a number of similar looking vans rush speedily past her as she made way back home from church yesterday.
“I asked myself why fully-grown people were piled dangerously and did not care remotely about their safety,” Kebirungi said.
In a statement dated May 26, 2025, the traffic spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura confirmed the incident.
According to Kananura, this particular vehicle had earlier been flagged by @PoliceUg at Lungala, Mpigi, alongside 03 others; UBG 649K, UBM 631E & UAR 351Z which were intercepted for multiple violations including: breach of Operators License, carrying passengers in unsafe positions, careless driving, obscured registration plates whose drivers were detained at Mpigi Police.
“The driver of UBM 672G along with other vehicles defied police directives & failed to stop,” he stated on X.
SP Kananura strongly urged all motorists to comply with the directives by police officers especially when stopped or directed in anyway.
“What may appear to be an inconvenience could in fact be a critical, life-saving intervention,” he said.
Authorities issued a stern warning to all drivers and operators who continue to endanger lives by transporting passengers in unsafe and illegal ways.
