Kibinge Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative Society is transforming the livelihoods of local farmers through a wide range of value addition initiatives, training programs, and access to financial services through its SACCO. The cooperative has also introduced innovative coffee solar dryers to improve post-harvest processing and quality.
Mukidaadi Kibuuka,the Cooperative’s Manager while speaking with Nexus media on May 13, 2025, highlighted the cooperative’s commitment to provide ready and fair market to the local coffee farmers as an assurance to boost continuity and productivity.
The cooperative has also helped in the distribution of coffee seedlings to farmers and fertilizers both organic and synthetic.
According to Kibuuka, the cooperative, has developed the community through road grading, empowered financially women through ‘Women Trade Network,’ boosting women in coffee farming and supporting youths through ‘ Youth Trade Network’ in coffee farming.
Kibuuka made these remarks during, the Sunshine Coffee Tour’s first stop over at Kibinge Coffee Farmer’s Cooperative Society in Bukonsimbi District, Buganda region.
However, he said that global price fluctuations have affected the local farmers especially when fulfilling international contracts.
“We are financially constraint with the price fluctuations, we have tried to reach out to the President about financial boost in vain and we haven’t lost hope, hopefully we shall eventually reach him and air out our concerns, “he added.
Despite these hurdles the cooperative continues to thrive. It produces approximately 900,000 tons of Robusta coffee (FAQ) annually, generating over $3 million in revenue. Kibuuka proudly referred to coffee as “the heart of our community’s development.”
Kibuuka further revealed that, the cooperative has constructed 20 shallow wells for the community and extended electricity to Mirabi HC 3 and Uganda Marty’s SS.
The Sunshine Coffee Tour first stop over was at Kibinge Coffee Farmer’s Co-operative Society in Bukonsimbi District, Buganda region. This cooperative started in 1995 as a Farmer’s group and was registered in 2009 as corporative society.
Kibinge coffee works with local coffee farmers within 51 villages. Fair trade certified and licensed to do export coffee to different countries.
