Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), during the leadership meeting held on June 26, 2023, at their offices appealed to its members not to participate in the planned demonstration against high taxes.

According to the Chairperson of KACITA, Thaddeu Musoke Nagenda, the document that circulated on social media calling upon the traders to engage in a peaceful demonstration starting on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, is not true and that the association is not part of the said demonstration.

“Much as we acknowledge traders’ challenges like high income tax rates, goods being confiscated with no returns by the tax body, the association is not part of the demonstration and traders should remain calm,” Nagenda said.

Nagenda added that on Monday afternoon KASITA would meet with the Commissioner-General of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), John Musinguzi about the planned demonstration and the association will declare its stand after the meeting.

Nagenda urged traders to stay calm without planning any protest because the meeting aims at seeking dialogue with the URA to find possible solutions of their problems.
