Parents at Babugi Nursery and Primary School are now demanding school’s accountability and justice following a devastating accident on Thursday, April 24, 2025, that claimed the life of a young pupil and left more than 20 others injured.

The incident, which occurred on Bugombwa Hill, has ignited widespread calls for accountability and better safety measures for school transport.

The school bus, registered as UAQ 319Q, was carrying 32 pupils from Nyahuka to Babugi School when the tragedy unfolded.

According to initial reports from the police, the bus lost control and overturned on the steep, winding hill.

Among the victims was Jessica Natukunda, a baby class pupil and daughter of Jackson Tumwebaze, who tragically passed away while being rushed to the hospital.

Jessica’s death has left a community demanding answers as to how such a tragedy could occur.

The injured students, some of whom are in critical condition, were immediately rushed to Bundibugyo General Hospital for treatment.

According to traffic officer Benon Nampala in a press briefing, earlier reports suggest that the bus’s brakes failed, which may have been the primary cause of the crash.

“Initial findings point to brake failure as the likely cause of the accident. Drivers are reminded to thoroughly inspect their vehicles before setting off,” Nampala stated.

In the aftermath of the crash, the driver of the bus fled the scene and remains at large.
