DP Demands Accountability for Security Force Violence and Political responsibility in Kawempe North By-election

The Democratic Party (DP) demands full political accountability for the electoral malpractice and violence committed by security forces during the recently concluded Kawempe North by-election.

Kasaca Mubiru Henry, the former flag bearer in the Kawempe North by-election for DP, made this call while addressing the media at the DP headquarters on Balintuma Road on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, as he presented his statement on the recently concluded election.

According to Kasaca, security agencies, along with President Yoweri Museveni, must take full political responsibility as the ultimate

”The law holds state agents personally accountable for violating citizens’ rights, but do not be misled into seeking explanations from the police and JATT. These security agencies operate under the directives and supervision of the higher political leadership, and it is them who must be held accountable,” Kasaca stated.

Kasaca asserted that the use of security forces for political purposes undermines the nation’s democratic progress and stressed that security should not be used to interfere with a peaceful democratic process.

“It is regrettable and wrong that this violence was led by members of the security forces right from the nomination days to the final voting days in the by-election,” he said.

He also congratulated Elias Nalukoola on his victory in the by-election and pledged his full support for Nalukoola’s future endeavors.

Additionally, Ismail Kirya, the Democratic Party spokesperson, called upon the district chairpersons to return the membership register to the party headquarters.

“We conduct elections based on the membership register, so it must be returned to the NUP headquarters immediately before any further elections take place,” Kirya emphasized.

He added that only registered members would be eligible to vote or contest for leadership positions within the political party, from the village level up to the district level.

As DP moves forward, it continues to advocate for a transparent and fair electoral process, with full respect for the rule of law and democratic principles.
