The Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) has made a crucial step in boosting cardiac care with the opening of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Theatre.

The Siemens Artis Q Cath Lab is a multifaceted technology developed to change cardiac treatment with a capacity of over 10,000 heart patients each year.

A renowned cardiologist at the Uganda Heart Institute, Dr Emmy Okello, commended the new Cath Lab for utilizing modern imaging and less invasive catheterization techniques to give faster and more accurate diagnostics.

“Doctors may diagnose cardiac abnormalities, collect tissue samples, and execute important therapies such as stent insertion and angioplasty by introducing tiny tubes (catheters) into the body,” Okello said.

However, Okello stressed the need for early detection and treatment in avoiding cardiac problems from worsening.

He added that with the development of this modern technology, cardiac care has become more accessible, efficient, and lifesaving than ever before in Uganda.

The Cath Lab, equipped with modern biplane X-ray cameras, is designed to revolutionize the detection and treatment of cardiac diseases in Uganda.

The Uganda Heart Institute’s embracing of this groundbreaking technology underscores its commitment to providing world-class cardiac treatment to Ugandans and beyond.
