President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has okayed the proposal to compensate residents of Karamoja whose property, including crops, were destroyed by the wildlife a few months ago.
While interacting with the journalists from the Karamoja sub region at Morulinga State Lodge on Friday, December 5th, 2024, President Museveni said the Cabinet will soon discuss the modalities of paying compensation to the affected residents.

Regarding the proposal to pardon over 3000 youths who were arrested by the security during disarmament operations, President Museveni said he will discuss the matter with the army council.
“So we need to discuss it to see how we can give them the soft landing without ignoring the efforts of everybody who was involved in taming them,” Museveni said.
On Thursday, December 4th, during the Karamoja leaders meeting held at the Nataikwae sports ground in the Moroto district, local leaders asked the government to consider compensating the affected residents. The leaders also asked the President to consider pardoning the youth.
