Gas Cylinder Explodes, Kills Two in Kampala

The gas released by the cylinder can burn easily; therefore, if the cylinder bursts, it can cause huge damage to the property and lives of the people surrounding it.

The police in Katwe are currently investigating a tragic situation of a gas explosion where two people lost their lives due to a suspected act of negligence.

The incident occurred on October 17, 2024, at approximately 9:50 a.m. at Sembule A in Kabowa parish, Rubaga division in Kampala district.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, confirmed the incident.

Preliminary reports indicate that Andrajt Baraya, an Indian national, and Amos, a Ugandan national, were operating an oxygen plant during their day shift when a gas cylinder exploded, resulting in their immediate deaths.

According to Owoyesigyire, the police, together with experts, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion to determine its cause.

He added that the police will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and assure the public that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the facts surrounding this unfortunate event,” Owoyesigyire said.

The police advise people to keep the cylinder upright in a cool, well-ventilated area, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources.
