The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has begun a series of disciplinary hearings against several members accused of misconduct contrary to the party constitution and rules of procedure.
Addressing journalists at a press conference on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, at Uganda House, the Head of Media and Communications, Faizo Muzeyi said the National Disciplinary Committee, chaired by P.P. Okello, launched the process on August 31st, 2026.
The committee officially commenced hearings on September 1st, at Garden Inn Hotel in Lira City and adjourned proceedings to September 3rd, at the party headquarters in Kampala.
Those whose cases are before the first session include Denis Enap Adim, Jack Kabusu, Aisha Natukunda Nawume, Emmanuel Magero Were, Suzan Achola, Chris Ongom, Alex Ogwal Adyebo, George Ewal, Josephine Babirye and other members.
Muzeyi said some of the allegations under consideration include forging party letterheads, seals and stamps, writing documents in the name of the party president, and other acts of false pretense.
He emphasized that the National Disciplinary Committee is an independent organ of the party and will communicate the outcome of the proceedings at an appropriate time in accordance with established procedures. Possible sanctions under party rules include a warning, caution, suspension or a recommendation for dismissal.
Sub-county disciplinary committees are also handling cases within their mandate in different parts of the country.
Muzeyi called on all UPC members to conduct the party business in strict adherence to the Party Code of Conduct and the laws of Uganda.
Separately, he said UPC would not field a candidate in the Adjumani by-election because no member had expressed interest by the close of the party’s internal deadline. He declined to comment on the affairs of other political groups, saying UPC’s concern was its own internal business.
