Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) President, Jimmy Akena, revealed that 285,000 members of the party have officially picked nomination forms to participate in village-level elections.

The announcement was made during the party’s weekly media briefing where Akena expressed optimism about UPC’s growing support and preparations for the 2026 general elections.

“I am very pleased to share that 285,000 of our members have picked forms to participate in village-level elections. This is a strong indication that UPC is becoming more deeply embedded in communities across the country, and we are laying the foundation for a successful campaign in the next general elections,” Akena stated

Akena mentioned the party’s focus on grassroots mobilization as a crucial part of its electoral strategy.

According to him, engaging at the village level is essential for understanding the concerns of ordinary Ugandans and addressing their needs effectively.

“This is where the real work starts engaging with communities, listening to the people, and understanding their challenges on the ground. It’s not just about national policies; it’s about improving the lives of Ugandans at the village level,” he explained.

Akena emphasized that UPC will continue to prioritize local leadership and community development, which he believes will form the bedrock of the party’s efforts in the next election cycle.
