The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) spokesperson, Arach Sharon Oyat, has asked all key stakeholders in the coming 2026 elections to maintain peace and remain calm.
While addressing members of the press at the party headquarters on September 4, 2024, Arach called upon all stake holders and the general public to remain peaceful if Ugandans are to have a free and fair 2026 general election.
“As we come closer to 2026 general elections, UPC reiterates its position that let all stakeholders (Electoral Commission, Security Agencies, Civil Society, Political Parties, Politicians, and the public) ensure peace and safety of our people before, during, and after elections,” Arach said.
Arach also asked the security forces to desist from the use of excessive force while dealing with Ugandans and should handle them like human beings.
“Police should restrain itself from highhandedness while managing crowds, and let’s manage our politics in a peaceful way,” Arach added.
Arach made these remarks in relation to the September 3, 2024, incident where the police and NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi clashed in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, leading to Kyagulani sustaining an injury.
While addressing a joint press conference at CID Headquarters in Kibuli recently, the Director of Criminal Investigations (CID), AIGP Major Tom Magambo, and DPP Jane Frances Abodo warned individuals planning to disrupt the 2026 elections that they will face the full force of the law, legally.
