UNEB PLE Papers’ Deal Gone Bad

Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, provides that any person who gains or attempts to gain possession of any examination papers commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding UGX 2 million and a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years.

Police have arrested four teachers in possession and dissemination of fake Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers and extorting money for the said papers.

In a press statement released by UNEB on November 4, 2024, Jennifer Musamba Kalule, the UNEB spokesperson, identified the suspects as Vincent Bakashaba, a teacher of Kimongole Primary School in Isingro; Vincent Muheki from Vision Primary School in Ibanda; Albert Pabeku, a teacher from Stoneridgeps in Kiran; and Hosea Oyet, a teacher from Dignatory Junior School in Rukungiri.

“The four suspects were found sharing fake PLE papers on different social media platforms and were extorting money to the tune of UGX 750,000 per set of four purported PLE papers,” Kalule said.

She further noted that the suspects are still in police custody and are expected to appear in court to take plea on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

The PLE candidates are set to write their examination papers from Wednesday, November 6-7, 2024, countrywide.
