Uganda Police Arrest Four Suspects in Aggravated Robbery of USD317,900

Police in Mpigi have arrested four suspects for in connection with the robbery of USD317,900.

ASP Hadija Namutebi, the Chief Political Commissar while addressing the presser on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Naguru Police Headquarters in Kampala said that, on September 19, 2023, a group of five men intercepted a taxi and robbed USD317,900 at Nakirebe along Masaka road.

According to Namutebi, one of the robbers was dressed in police uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and one other dressed in army uniform.

“One of the criminals were dressed in army uniform. The rest of the culprits were in civilian clothes. They were travelling in motor vehicle super custom whose number plate was concealed with MK army stickers during the time of the robbery,” Namutebi said.

“Four of suspects were arrested with the help of CCCTV footages viewed at B energy petro station and through intelligence,” she added.

Namutebi identified the robbers as Moses Lubega, Josephat Nuwagaba commonly known as Jose, Richard Kyomuhendo commonly known as Ricky and ASP James Kakana former OC Namayingo.

She said that their homes were searched for possible evidence, adding that, the suspects were interviewed and their statements recorded.

“They admitted to participating in the robbery that has been mentioned above,” she said.

Namutebi noted that exhibits which include a motor vehicle with registration number UAW 187S which they had disguised with an MK sticker, used during the robbery, a motor vehicle UBN 291A Subaru which was bought using the money that was robbed, house hold items like sofa sets, TV sets, cooking utensils and other assorted assets were recovered.

“On November 16, ASP James Kakana, former OC station Namayingo was arrested from Nansana Wakiso District after escaping arrest from his station in Namayingo,” Namutebi said.

The suspects appeared before Grade one Magistrate at Mpigi and were charged with aggravated robbery on November 17, 2023.
