Uganda, Mozambique Sign MoU to Abolish Visas, Ordinary Passports

Uganda and Mozambique signed MoUs in Veterans and Combatant Management, protection of wildlife, and mutual exemption of visas for holders of diplomatic, service/official, and ordinary passports.

Uganda has signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Mozambique to remove visas and ordinary passports to enhance free movement of people of both countries.

According to John Mulimba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Regional Cooperation of the Republic of Uganda, the issues of agriculture and trade are critical to the well-being of the people of both countries.

“Our countries must work together to address food security, improve the ease of doing business, and enhance opportunities for our young people,” Mulimba said.

Mulimba made the remarks during the 2nd Session of the Uganda-Mozambique Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), held on Thursday, September 19, 2027, at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

The minister added that the MoU has marked another milestone in the long-standing and historic relations characterized by not only a rich history of brotherhood and solidarity but also driven by a common vision for peace, stability, and development in the region.

The duo countries signed MoUs in Veterans and Combatant Management, protection of wildlife, and mutual exemption of visas for holders of diplomatic, service/official, and ordinary passports.

According to Mulimba, the MoUs are set to consolidate the achievements in defence and security, tourism and wildlife, agriculture, ICT, trade & investment, and infrastructure development.

Pascoal Pedro João Ronda, the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Mozambique, commended the government of the Republic of Uganda for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to his delegation during their stay in Kampala.

While concluding the signing of the MoUs, the delegates from sister countries resolved and directed the technical officials to ensure immediate and full implementation of the signed MoUs in accordance with directives of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi issued in Entebbe on April 27, 2022.

The two delegations agreed to hold the third JPC in Maputo, the Republic of Mozambique, in 2026.
