A total of 1,127 motorcycles have been impounded across the country over various traffic offences.

SP Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson, said the impounded bikes were being operated by riders who didn’t have driving licenses.

While addressing the media on Monday at the Naguru police headquarters, Kananura said some riders didn’t have reflector jackets.

“675 were without helmets, 96 were without reflectors, and 150 were on other offenses, for a total of 281 riders who were issued fines and taken to court,” said Kananura.

He adds that a total of 7,072 drivers were arrested during the countrywide drink-drive operation conducted on September 1, 2023.

The operation is being conducted by the Traffic Department in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Works, and Transport and the Uganda National Roads Authority.
