The dispute now places Tooro at a delicate crossroads between customary authority and Uganda’s legal framework. Omusuuga Kamurasi has called for respect for tradition and the law, while President Museveni has called for peace and unity among the Batooro.
On commercial diplomacy, the United States is shifting assistance toward private-sector-led growth, including efforts with Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Taiwan to connect every Pacific Islands Forum country to a trusted undersea cable network. Kabanda described the occasion as historic and said a signed book would be used to record supporters across the country. He announced that PLU would organise endorsement rallies in all 146 districts, with local committees collecting signatures in each sub-county before the books are presented at larger rallies.
Kabanda said the endorsement issued on March 11th, 2026, by PLU Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for Right Honorable Annet Anita Among as Speaker and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as Deputy Speaker “is retracted and withdrawn with immediate effect.”
Apart from Jimmy Lwanga, NUP's Bukoto South MP Twaha Kagabo also crossed to PLU, a political movement headed by the first son, General Muhoozi Keinerugaba.
