Omukama Edward Rukiidi Nyabongo I, a son to Prince Christopher Paul Kiijanangoma and a grandson of Omukama George David Kamurasi Rukiidi ascended to the throne on September 29th, 2026, after the death of his cousin King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV who succumbed to cancer at the age of 34 in the United states.
On the economic front, Lt Col Murema described a resilient economy as critical to sustainable development, while an educated, disciplined and productive population remains an important national resource.
"Part of the problem with Africans is that they look at the Army as a job. The Army is not a job; it’s an obligation to defend your country. When you are defending your country, it’s not a job. Don’t bring careerism in the Army. You have an obligation to defend the country."
